Security Cameras for Business

Cedar Falls School District decides to implement security cameras

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

The School district in Cedar Falls Iowa has decided to use a Dept. of Justice grant to obtain and install 43 security cameras.

This is something I think all schools should do by default. I know people want to whine about privacy but it is a school not your home so privacy, unless in a shower or bathroom or changing room should not be expected.

The difference security cameras can make in the safety level of a school is huge. Knowing they are being watched will help the kids be on their best behavior. It can help curb bullying as well as physical and sexual assaults as well as drug dealing and usage.

A little loss in privacy is a small price to pay for helping make your school a safer place for ALL of the kids.

So a big well done to Cedar Falls for being smart enough to do what is necessary to help protect the children in their schools.

Pervert secretly recorded women in busy Austin Texas thrift store

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

48 year old Ronald Wallace Lane entered a very busy Austin Texas thrift store with the intention of spying on women without their knowledge. He used 3 Hidden Cameras to do the recordings.

He was caught with a hidden camera in a “koozie” (a.k.a. beer cooler), a tiny camera on his sandal and one about the size of a pen hidden camera. He was using the for “upskirt” shots and other perverted things like sticking his sandal under the changing room door etc..

This is probably not the first time this freak has done this as well setup as he was. I bet we find out he has a long history of this garbage.

Sears employee secretly recorded women in the changing rooms and bathrooms

Saturday, April 21st, 2012

According to authorities a maintenance worker was recording women without their knowledge in the bathrooms and changing rooms in a Sears store in North Hollywood.

They think 27 year old Alejandro Gamiz has been doing this for 3 years! God knows how many victims of this guy there really are all together and what he did with the recordings.

For all we know there are images of many women all over the net as a result of this pervert doing his evil deed for so long without anyone catching on.

What I can’t understand is how this was able to go on for so many years without anyone getting suspicious…it is mind boggling to me.

I mentioned before it is a good idea to carry a Hidden Camera Detector when going into public bathrooms and changing rooms and this is yet another example of why I said that. The Hidden Camera technology to do the recordings is too readily available to not be prepared and take a better safe than sorry approach. Once something is one the net it is there forever.

Casino accused of recording a women without her knowledge

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

When I first began to read the story i was horrified thinking how could they have done that to this poor woman but then I read on.

Kelle Ryan said that while she was working for Players Club at the Island View Casino Resort in Gulfport Mississippi she and other employees regularly used the office to change their clothes.

According to Ms. Ryan, she was in the office when she noticed a smoke detector that didn’t seem to be working so she checked it out closely and found it was a Smoke Detector Hidden Camera.

At this point she lost it and was escorted off by security. Now normally I would be lambasting this company over this travesty until I re-read the article and noticed something.

This all happened in an OFFICE not a changing room or restroom it was an office in a casino. Anyone with any sense is going to realize that everywhere EXCEPT the bathrooms are being recorded by eyes in the sky..it’s a casino for god’s sake!

Now the only fault I can find is that after the first time they noticed people using an office as a changing room they should have told employees to knock it off and get some class and go to the restroom or changing rooms.

Telling employees that all areas except bathrooms are subject to surveillance is also a good deterrent to bad behavior on company grounds.

So other than the lack of reminding people offices are not changing rooms I don’t think they did anything wrong from the information about this incident that I have seen so far.

It is a good reminder to people …the only place you can truly expect privacy should be on your own property and in changing rooms or restrooms…that’s it. Other than those places always carry yourself as if you are being filmed because you probably are.

Lastly to the casino you need to get better Smoke Detector Hidden Cameras as she should never have noticed it was a camera to begin with had it been one of our models. ;)

Security Cameras catch man breaking into car

Sunday, October 30th, 2011

A homeowner in Maryland was smart and installed some security cameras around his home. I don’t know how long  he had the cameras but they caught a lowlife on video breaking into a car during a recent wave of car break-ins.

Thanks to this homeowner the police have a good tool they can use to catch and prosecute this scumbag.

You can read an article I wrote on picking the right Security Camera which may help you decide which one would be right for you.

Theives steal Security Cameras from Church

Friday, October 28th, 2011

This is more of a tale of what not to do than anything else. I understand what they were trying to accomplish but they just chose the wrong way to go about doing it. This isn’t to put them down for their efforts to protect themselves from vandals and thieves this is just to help educate everyone on the best ways to do it.

They tried to use trail cameras to catch the vandals and thieves that have been bothering them for a while but instead they stole the cameras as well. One big mistake was hanging them in trees.

When you install an outdoor camera it needs to be in a location that is not easy to get to as well as being permanently mounted so it is not easy to remove.

If you use visible outdoor security cameras then you will use a Security Camera recorder, a.k.a. DVR. This should be securely locked within the building or home so that it cannot be taken since it holds the evidence. Criminals may steal or damage the cameras but the video of them doing it will be safe and sound inside.

Now for those looking to do it all with just a camera without having a DVR than you will want something that the thieves can’t tell is a camera. In other words you need an outdoor hidden camera.

A really good choice for this is something like the Spotlight Hidden Camera which is as the name infers a spotlight that millions of people have on their homes but this one happens to also have a DVR and Hidden Camera built into it.

You place this up on the side of your home or building and you can catch all the criminals on video instead of being victimized yet again without any real good evidence to show for it. They will never know they were caught on video and you can help the police to catch these scumbags and get them off the streets before they hurt someone.

How to Protect a Business Using Security Cameras

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

To protect a business using security cameras you will need to ensure you cover all of the vital areas. These areas include all external doors, office areas, long hallways and any spot where a safe or register is located.

The actual physical placement of any security cameras will vary depending on your type of business such as retail or office as well as the type of building itself but you can follow a few rules of thumb.

As mentioned previously, you need to cover all doors that lead to the outside and if you have windows try to cover those as well although windows get to be of less a concern the higher up on floors you go.

Remember, the amount of an area that security cameras can “see” gets wider the farther away you get from the camera so just think of it as a cone that spreads out. This means in many cases you will be able to cover a larger area by setting the camera back from the area. With this in mind you could potentially cover the entire front of the store or business with just 1 or 2 cameras.

In the office areas you may want to consider using hidden security cameras which will help you find and prosecute any employee theft as well.

For long hallways you should place a camera at both ends to be sure you get full coverage of the area. The last thing you want is someone roaming the halls without being caught on at least one of your security cameras.

For a retail business you need to cover any area where you have a safe and placing a camera over any cash register is also a good idea. Both of these are also areas where a smoke detector hidden camera or sprinkler head hidden camera may be the best bet.

You can never plan for every event and no matter how many security precautions you put in place you can never guarantee you will not fall victim to some type of crime. The best you can hope for is to lower the odds and in the case something does happen you want to be sure to have the video evidence to help identify and prosecute the offender.

How to Place Security Cameras in Your Jewelry Store

Friday, May 6th, 2011

When deciding where to place security cameras in your jewelry store you should consider a two pronged approach utilizing both hidden and visible security cameras. The reason you would want to do this is that even most of the smash and grab jewel thefts were prefaced by at least one of the criminals casing the store in order to learn about the security setup and any vulnerabilities.

Your goal is to try and make it more difficult for any criminal to rob your store without winding up on the video recording of at least one security camera. This can also be very helpful for preventing most employee theft.

When placing hidden security cameras within your jewelry store you will want to cover your most expensive displays and any spot where you have a safe or cash register. A good choice for this situation will be the smoke detector hidden camera or the sprinkler head hidden camera.

Both have a down view so they can be placed right over the area to ensure you get the best possible view of anything, jewelry or money, that is passed back and forth across the counter. This will help keep both your customers and employees honest.

As for your visible cameras you will want to use domed security cameras and it would be worth the extra to get the higher resolution models so that you can be sure to get the most detailed video possible. You’ll find the difference in price to be small in comparison to the better resolution.

Be sure you place at least one camera on the far wall across from the front of the store so that you get a wide shot of the storefront area. You’ll have to see if one camera will cover the area but that will all depend on the length of the storefront and distance of the far wall.

Place a camera in all 4 corners of the store to they are easily seen to help deter theft and ensure full coverage of the store and display cases.

Remember you can always scale your security setup as needed should you find any holes or not have enough capital to purchase all the security cameras you need at one time. Get what you can and add as you go if necessary.
